Who are “MSF Field Partners”?
“MSF Field Partners” are our monthly donors. A monthly contribution as an MSF Field Partner enables MSF to launch relief operations swiftly to unforeseen emergencies and plan for long term operations. It also helps to reduce our administration costs as the donation process is much more simplified, and therefore more funding can be used directly in our medical relief operations. I have seen some people claiming they are representing MSF on the street, asking me to sign up as an “MSF Field Partners”. How can I verify their identity?
Every day, three teams of fundraising ambassadors who represent MSF go to different corners in Hong Kong, to invite the public to join as “MSF Field Partners”. You can verify the identity of an MSF fundraising ambassador in the following ways:
  • All MSF fundraising ambassadors wear an MSF t-shirt.
  • MSF fundraising ambassadors have a working pass with a photo that clearly indicates their name and staff number. Each pass is also verified with an MSF organisation chop.
  • MSF fundraising ambassadors NEVER ask for or accept cash and cheque donation on the street.
  • MSF fundraising ambassadors work in different locations throughout Hong Kong every day, but you can check the schedule on our website.
When in doubt, please do not hesitate to call the MSF-Hong Kong office at (852) 2338 8277 or (852) 2959 4229.

Why does MSF have to pay a professional fundraising agency to run “MSF Field Partners” in the street? Why not run them in-house instead?
In 2004, when we first started this method of fundraising, we tried to conduct the street activities by mobilizing our volunteers. But we found out very quickly  that asking volunteers to work on the streets for 8 hours a day, 5.5 days per week was simply not possible.  The professional skills and training required was another reason that obliged us to hire full-time staff instead.  As a matter of fact, paying the agencies to manage these teams, where economy of scale can be attained as they work with a number of other organisations, is actually the less costly option.

Will I get regular communication as a monthly donor?
We will share our latest work and updates through our Bulletin “Borderline” every half year.
