2-5 | Thousands of people fleeing violence in the contested border area between Sudan and South Sudan are in desperate need of food, water and medical care. MSF has launched an emergency intervention to assist them as they arrive, mostly empty-handed, in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state in South Sudan, where the humanitarian situation is already dire. According to local authorities, 1,542 households have arrived in Aweil North County in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state since October last year.

1-29 | Because access to people trapped in conflict areas has been systematically denied by the authorities in Sudan, the Brussels-based operational centre of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) today announces that it can no longer reach communities in the greatest need, and therefore has been forced to close its activities in the country. The Brussels-based section of MSF was focusing on three conflict-affected parts of Sudan, where hundreds of thousands of people are displaced and in need of assistance.

In the last five days, there has been heavy fighting, we hear the constant boom of shelling and crackle of shooting. We've had reports that more than 70 houses have been damaged or destroyed in the last week, and a number of hospitals have been damaged since the fighting began in the summer.

The hospital, located in the Nuba Mountains village of Frandala in the South Kordofan region of Sudan was bombed by the Sudanese Air Force (SAF).
