Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) works in the world’s most vulnerable places, bringing much-needed healthcare to victims of crises. Many of these areas are ‘missing’ from digital maps, and MSF field workers have often been known to rely on hand-drawn maps when coordinating emergency response activities.
On 1st August 2020, MSF invites you to join our first-ever virtual “Southeast Asia Missing Maps Mapathon” in putting missing parts of Niger State, Nigeria on the map!
With more than 10 years of conflict in the northeastern states, seasonal disease outbreaks and poor healthcare facilities, vast numbers of people in Nigeria depend on aid to survive. MSF has been working in Nigeria since 1996.
Join us as we put the people from Nigeria’s Niger state on the map by mapping houses and buildings. With MSF having to respond to lead poisoning outbreaks since 2015, and meningitis in 2016, it is crucial that we have useful and detailed maps so we can respond more effectively to future humanitarian emergencies in the area. All are welcome. No mapping experience required.
Do you want to know how it feels like joining a Missing Maps Mapathon with over 200 volunteer mappers?

You will be comparing satellite images and adding roads to a shared online map. This map will then be made available for all humanitarian organisations worldwide.
