If you are not a doctor, nurse nor logistician; if you don't have time; if you cannot leave your family, friends, or work for at least several months overseas; but you really want to support Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) relief work on the frontline, what can you do? "MSF Day 2007" provides a good chance for the public to volunteer for Médecins Sans Frontières in their workplace.
"MSF Day", the yearly campaign of MSF Hong Kong, is successfully kicked-off today at Discovery Park in Tsuen Wan. Guests from different sectors call for the public to donate a day's income to MSF as being a volunteer for MSF on that day to help alleviate sufferings of those in need of medical assistance.
Hon. Leung Chun-ying, Convenor of Executive Council and one of the officiating guests of the event says that the volunteering spirit of field volunteers, who leave their families, friends and work and provide medical assistance to those in need on the frontline, is admirable. Though we may not be able to work on the frontline, we can still support MSF's relief work by joining MSF Day.
Hon. Tam Yiu-chung, Legislative Councillor and Vice-President of Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions, hopes that employees can generously support MSF's medical relief work especially with the pay rise under the blooming economy. Professor Raymond Liang from the Department of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong also shares that it is meaningful to support MSF's frontline work. Mr. Stephen Chan, General Manager of the Television Broadcast Co. Ltd. calls for support from enterprises to mobilise their staff to join MSF Day together.
Ms. Candy Lo Hau-yam and Mr. Louis Cheung Kai-chung, pop-artistes, also show their support in the ceremony. Louis, who will soon be a father, says that life is so precious and hopes the public can support MSF to save more lives by providing medical assistance.
"MSF Day 2007" is to be held on 30 July. By donating a day's income or more, participants will volunteer for MSF on that day. They will also wear the MSF Day Badge to experience volunteering spirit of MSF. It is open for registration from today till 23 July.
This year, with the slogan of "Let's Donate a Day's Income and Volunteer for MSF", we hope the Hong Kong public and enterprises from different sectors can join hands and support our relief work. And we are honoured to have Mr. Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, Chief Executive of HKSAR, to be the Honourable Campaign Leader of the MSF Day Campaign 2007.
