Organize and carry out anesthetic medical activities, according to MSF policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards and in close collaboration with the surgeon and other medical staff, and increase the knowledge and practical skills of the anesthetic staff through on the job training and knowledge transfer in order to ensure the quality of care provided to patients.

Role of the anesthesiologist :

  • Carry out pre-operative consultations evaluating the risks of operating in collaboration with the surgeon, providing the patient with appropriate information and deciding the type of anesthetics to be used, in order to ensure the best conditions prior to the surgery.
  • Carry-out all anesthesia related activities during surgery to ensure safe, adequate anesthesia:
    1. Preparing beforehand the drugs, material, and equipment required.
    2. Administering and maintaining anesthetics following the rules of hygiene and asepsis in force.
    3. Monitoring patients throughout the intervention.

Requirements :

  • Valid degree and current license
  • At least 2 years of post-residency clinical experience in anaesthesia
  • Training and people management experience highly preferred 
  • Experience in paediatrics, obstetrics, and trauma anaesthesia; as well as spinal and dissociation anaesthesia (e.g. Ketamine)

Epidemiologist

Assessing, implementing and maintaining the epidemiological surveillance systems/monitoring (if needed) according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to contribute to appropriate evidence-based decision making using well managed health data in outbreak and emergency MSF programmes.

Defining, coordinating and monitoring the epidemiological activities, ensuring the development of appropriate methodology and the quality of studies according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to identify risk factors for diseases and to determine the optimal treatment approaches to clinical practice and the preventive medicine to be used in the missions.

Role of the Epidemiologist :

As an epidemiologist you can be employed in the field of program monitoring, program evaluation and/ or field epidemiology.

In the field of monitoring you will assure that relevant and validated program data are available. You will assure that indicators are debated within the medical team and inform operational decision. In addition, you’ll assure that data collection and analysis adapt when project activities are re-oriented.

In the field of evaluation you will assess the performance of projects. You will provide recommendations for operational research (mostly using program data, less frequent are prospective studies) to evaluate new tools (drugs, lab tests, …) or new operational strategies.

In the field of field epidemiology you will be responsible for initial assessments when outbreaks are suspected, and you will assure epidemiological surveillance /monitoring systems are in place to inform operational decision making during outbreaks and other emergency programs. When indicated, you will be involved in surveys to orient operational decisions.

Requirements
 :

  • Master in Public Health with relevant professional experience in epidemiology or an MSC in epidemiology
  • Relevant professional experiences of at least 2 years is mandatory
  • Proven practical skills in design, implementation and evaluation of surveys, and in quantitative/ qualitative research methods.
  • Experience with relevant software packages
  • Outbreak investigation /  management experience (e.g. cholera) is an asset. 
  • Experience with tropical medicine and infectious diseases is desirable.

Health Promoter

Responsible for the coordination and implementation of awareness-raising and educational campaigns to support the medical activities. The Health Promoter is therefore part of the medical team.  The campaign can address different themes in emergency projects (vaccination campaigns, awareness-raising on malnutrition or cholera) or in projects that focus on one medical issue (AIDS, MDRTB, malaria, etc).

Role of Health Promoter :

  • Assessing knowledge of the target gorup on a health risk and analyzing the context (local culture, traditions, habits, health perception) to adapt health activities and support the social mapping (villages, populations, actors).
  • Assessing, developing and adapting HP materials according to the needs of the project. Ensuring content and format have been pre-tested with target groups in order to ensure the adequency, relevance, full understanding of the messages.
  • Liaising with other relevant actors (national and INGO, authorities), also involved in prevention activities, analyzing interventions and building cooperative relationships and advocacy, in order to enhance the influence of the campaigns and messages and to improve awareness among the targeted population.

Requirements :

  • Master in Social Science, Master in Public Health orientation Health Promotion, Master in Community Health (Nursing Diploma in Community Health)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience (working in health promotion/ education, prevention, community mobilitzation, etc)
  • IT knowledge, basic windows environment is a must

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Specialist

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Specialist is responsible for the Infection Prevention and Control activities and leads the development and maintenance of an IPC program in the project, in order to strive for patient safety, caretakers and staff and to enhance the quality of care.

Role of IPC Specialist includes :

  • MSF IPC Policy will focus on 3 priority pillars: 1/ Hand hygiene, 2/ Environmental cleaning and disinfection, re-processing of medical equipment, 3/ Transmission-based precaution.
    Therefore some of the roles of IPC Specialist :
    - Ensuring the implementation of the standard and transmission-based precautions in the health structures in all departments in collaboration with each service activity manager using existing tools (guidelins, checklist, audit forms, trainings).
    - Providing technical supervision and guidance to the staff in all departments including sterilization, laundy and kitchen.
    - Develop multimodal strategies to improve IPC in the facilities, for example : initiate system change (availability of the appropriate infrastructure and supplies); organize training; perform monitoring and give feedback.
    - Promoting a stepwise IPC improvement approach, tailored to the local context.

Requirements :

  • IPC diploma is essential

Medical Doctor

Role of the Medical Doctor :

- In addition, the setup, coordination, training and supervision of health personnel represent a significant part of a general physician's work.

MSF needs Midwife to provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and newborn caring standards, in order to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications.

Some of the responsibilities as midwife include : 

  • the reinforcement of the implementation of standardized protocols for pregnancy and delivery care, sexual violence victim care, family planning, prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS, prevention of sexually transmitted disease, abortion care, etc. 
  • organisational aspects (human resource management, pharmacy management, gathering of statistical data, etc), as well as training supervision, evaluation and guidance of team members.

  • Bachelor's Degree in midwifery

Mental Health Specialist/ Psychologist

Mental health services play a vital role in many of MSF’s projects around the world. MSF provides mental health and psychosocial support activities in a large variety of contexts, for example:

  • emergencies (natural and manmade disasters)
  • protracted/chronic-ongoing crisis
  • excluded and marginalized populations (survivors of sexual and gender based violence, victims of urban violence, minorities, migrants, etc.)
  • integration with medical care (HIV/AIDS, TB, haemorrhagic fever, etc.)

Most of the programs consists of both clinical (individual and groups) and community-based component and require an integrated medical-psychological-social approach.

Role of Mental Health Specialist / Psychologist:

  • Managing overal mental health programme.
  • Leading the program for people being treated for HIV/AIDS and/or Tuberculosis, plan support activities for people affected by emergencies (such as armed confict or natural disasters), implement a support program for victims of sexual violence or coordinate a program for migrant population. Most of the programs consists of both clinical (indivicual and groups) and community-based components and require an integrated medical - psychological - social approach.
  • Coordinating and supervising the different mental health and psychosocial support activities.
  • Recruiting, train and supervise local professionals who carry out the mental health and psychosocial support interventions in health facilities and in the community.


Requirements :

  • Masters in Clinical Psychology or equivalent
  • Having 2 years of clinical experience to adults/ children
  • Registered in a recognized professional body
  • Desirable experience in training/ supervision and clinical practice in post-traumatic stress, sexual violence, HIV/ AIDS or any other chronic disease
  • Experience in either post-traumatic stress disorder or trauma and related areas

Operating Theater Nurse

Organize and carry-out all nursing activities related to the operating theatre (OT) running, according to MSF health protocols, universal hygienic standards and in coordination with the surgeon and anaesthetist, in order to ensure a smooth functioning of the surgical activities (pre, during and post-operative care) offered to patients.

Some of the responsibilities as OT Nurse include : 

  • Ensure the preparation of the material and equipment (checking the quantity and quality), in the OT and carry-out the reception, transport of the patient from the preparation room to the OT and ensuring his/her installation for surgery.
  • Assist the surgeon and anaesthetist during the operation, anticipating their needs, in order to facilitate their job and helping throughout the whole process.
  • Organize the patient’s transport and installation from the operating theatre to the recovery room and carry-out and/or supervise all the post-operative activities (used material collection, OT’s cleaning and disinfection, resetting all equipment and material back), in order to prepare the OT for next surgical intervention or any emergency.
  • Implement and follow-up the hygiene, sterilization, asepsis and disinfection protocols and procedures at all times, in pre, during and post-operative activities, in order to ensure the patient and staff’s safety conditions. i.e. waste containers availability, sharps container, checking no material or needles remain in the surgical towels, placing instruments into soak container, take instruments/linen to sterilization unit, etc.).
  • - Control all equipment and material stock to be used in the OT, in order to ensure an efficient and rationale use of material resources while preventing damage and deterioration.

Responsible for the management of medicines, medical supplies and medical equipment, processing orders, inventory, consumption follow-up, and distribution of quality-assured medicine to clinics and hospitals supported by MSF. Monitoring usage of pharmaceutical supplies and promotes its optimal use.

Framed in the Medical Department, will work with a multidisciplinary approach to ensure quality of care to the beneficiaries.

Close collaboration with the Supply Chain and Logistic Teams.
 

Some of the responsibiities can be : 

  • Ensuring storage, stock management and supply processes, as well as hygiene and security procedures, tools, and protocols (controlling pests and rodents), implementing appropriate quality controls and records, in order to ensure good storage conditions (temperatures, humidity and light exposure) and availability of drugs and medical material, according to MSF protocols, national regulations and in cooperation with the logistics department.
  • Coordinating the delivery, reception and recording of international and local orders, in close coordination with the logistics department, updating stock files and informing line managers on their status (shortfalls, over-stocking, expiry dates), in order to permanently ensure security stock levels and ensure efficient management of stock.
  • Supervising orders of medical and drug material in order to ensure an efficient and appropriate consumption pattern under budget constraints.
  • Supervising the supply of drugs to patients, according to medical prescriptions, informing them on consumption patterns and keeping conditions in order to ensure their therapeutic progression
  • Ensuring efficient supply to other pharmacies managed/supported by MSF according to orders and stocks, and using cold chain when needed. Monitoring and analysing orders of depending pharmacies in order to avoid ruptures of stock or having expired drugs.
  • Supervising, with the HR department, the associated processes (sizing, staff shifts, recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the pharmaceutical team and the nursing staff, in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required and to improve their dispensing capabilities.
  • Recording all items received and issued in computer (Isystock) and reporting on drug consumptions and medical equipment dispensed according to protocols, informing on unusual patterns as well as forecasting future needs, in order to rationalise the budget and to ensure availability.
  • Assisting in training of nursing staff regarding dispensing of drugs and their side effects

General Logistician

Our supply logisticians make sure our projects are equipped with everything that's needed to deal with an emergency.

From collecting supplies off an MSF plane on a makeshift runway, to working with the medical team to forecast medical supplies months in advance, the work of a supply logistician is far reaching and vital to the whole team.

As a supply logistician, you will analyse in-country contexts in order to design, plan and set up a relevant supply chain, build the capacity of local staff and work closely with all departments to ensure accurate forecasting and emergency preparedness.
 

Responsibilities : 

  • Monitoring the implementation of logistics/technical/supply activities ensuring compliance to MSF standards, protocols and procedures.
  • In close collaboration with the HR department, participating in the recruitment, training, briefing/debriefing and performance evaluation of the logistics staff in the mission in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required. Implementing all these related activities to the logistics staff under his/her direct responsibility.
  • Ensuring technical reference for all logistics/technical issues in the mission and provides coaching to logistics staff.
  • Ensuring installation and maintenance of functional office space(s) and lodging facilities in an adequate living condition as well as all the equipment required.
  • Monitoring and implementing the technical aspects of the risk reduction rules: transport, communication, protection, identification and preparation of the technical aspects of the mission security plan, evacuation plan and other contingency plans.
  • Ensuring communication means in the mission (including numbers frequencies), allowing permanent communication between capital, projects, bases and HQ. Ensures all staff in the mission benefits from proper training on how to use communications equipment available in the Mission (e.g. satellite phones, HF/VHF radios, computers, etc.)

  • Leading the development of project proposals and/or work plans, when Watsan activities are integrated in medical interventions. 
  • Conducting Watsan assessments in collaboration with project medical teams to identify Watsan needs at the project level, and summarizing findings to the direct line manager and recommending appropriate responses. In emergency response situations at the project level, leading the development and planning of Watsan emergency strategies and resources planning, in collaboration with the medical and logistical teams
  • Coordinating the execution of the Watsan activities and teams at the project level in order to meet quality indicators, time schedule and budget, preventing deviations and proposing immediate technical adjustments when necessary. Leading regular project meetings with the project’s Watsan Managers to facilitate the discussion and prompt resolution of problems, promoting regular exchange of information, and planning individual and joint activities
  • Guiding processes of Watsan technical support to the project's medical team in identifying possible “risk factors” (e.g. behavioural practices, environmental sources of infection, and transmission routes) and controlling measures to address modes of transmission of infection and corresponding ways of controlling spread.
