7-18 | As malnutrition rates surge beyond emergency levels in many areas of Ethiopia, Médecins Sans Frontières calls for the immediate resumption of food distributions which were suspended across Ethiopia in early June 2023.More than 20 million people in Ethiopia rely heavily on food assistance, especially refugees and displaced people. Those most at risk include pregnant women, new mothers, children under five and people living with HIV.
7-12 | The evening of July 6, approximately 20 armed men violently entered the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) hospital in Tabarre, in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, to forcibly remove a patient with gunshot wounds who was still in the operating room. MSF strongly condemns this incursion, which demonstrates once again the unprecedented level of violence currently raging in Port-au-Prince. All trauma and burn care activities at the Tabarre hospital are currently suspended due to this incident.
7-4 | Following the shipwreck of 14 June which left up to 500 people dead or missing off the coast of Greece, Médecins Sans Frontieres denounces EU migration policies and calls for accountability over the lives lost and for a dedicated, proactive, state-led search and rescue mechanism at sea.“The lack of political will to ensure rescue capacity has contributed to the deadliest accident at sea recorded in the Mediterranean since 2015,” says Duccio Staderini, MSF head of mission for Greece and the Balkans.
6-28 | Between January and May 2023, 166,649 people risked their lives to cross from Colombia to Panama on foot through the Darién Gap—a fivefold increase from the same period in 2022. Médecins Sans Frontières teams providing care to migrants in southern Panama who survived the dangerous journey are extremely concerned about the inadequate protection, hygiene, and basic services provided.
6-25 | Almost 900 wounded people have arrived in Chad over the last several days. They report people being shot at and killed as they try to escape violence in the city.
