4-5 | Amparo Vilasmil is MSF mental health activity manager in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. She is part of a team operating in Montepuez, the second most populous city in the province and one of the destinations for people fleeing recent attacks in the coastal town of Palma.MSF has been running a medical project in Montepuez since November 2020. Over the last year the number of people forced to flee here has increased exponentially because of the crisis. There are currently around 50,000 people living either in camps or in the host community.
3-31 | People living in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique’s northernmost province, have experienced violent attacks by non-state armed groups since 2017. Some 2,400 people have reportedly been killed and some 668,000 people are currently displaced from their homes, mostly within the province but also in neighbouring provinces. Over the past year, the conflict has intensified, and the displaced people’s needs for shelter, food, healthcare and other basic services are growing fast.
