3-20 | In an escalation of violence in Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ituri province, armed men attacked the town of Drodro on the night of 6 to 7 March, killing a patient in her bed ransacking the general hospital, and looting medical equipment, says international medical organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), whose teams work in Drodro hospital. The attackers also looted another nearby medical facility.
12-12 | In the Democratic Republic of Congo’s western province of Equateur, the people in the Bolomba health zone have been affected by an Mpox outbreak over the past months. From the end of August to mid-October 2023, an MSF emergency team was on-site to help health authorities treat patients and combat the spread of the disease.
5-31 | More than 80,000 people have arrived in South Kivu’s Minova health zone, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), after fleeing conflict in neighbouring North Kivu province. Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has launched an emergency response with a focus on reaching people in areas where humanitarian assistance is non-existent.
10-28 | Since September 20, 2022, the day the Ebola epidemic was declared in Uganda, MSF has been working alongside the Ministry of Health to support medical care in the country.As of October 23, 90 patients were confirmed with Ebola and 28 people were reported to have died from the disease. Another 32 people have recovered and been discharged from treatment centres.
10-5 | Since the declaration of the Ebola outbreak in Uganda on 20 September (and as of 2 October 2022), the Ugandan Ministry of Health has confirmed 43 cases of Ebola and reported 29 deaths (nine confirmed deaths from the disease and 20 probable). MSF is working with the Ministry of Health to set up an initial emergency response to help stop the disease from spreading further.
