12-1 | Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) calls on the Latvian authorities to immediately end the unlawful and arbitrary detention of migrants and asylum seekers in Latvia, which is having severe consequences on their mental and physical health. Currently, around 50 people are detained in two Latvian Immigration Detention Centers (IDCs), managed by the State Border Guard Service (SBGS); Mucenieki IDC, close to the Latvian capital Riga and Daugavpils IDC, located near the Belarussian border.
10-28 | Since September 20, 2022, the day the Ebola epidemic was declared in Uganda, MSF has been working alongside the Ministry of Health to support medical care in the country.As of October 23, 90 patients were confirmed with Ebola and 28 people were reported to have died from the disease. Another 32 people have recovered and been discharged from treatment centres.
10-7 | Almost one million people are currently displaced in northern Mozambique after fleeing their homes in search of safety, due to the conflict that started in Cabo Delgado province in October 2017. Many people have been displaced multiple times, needing to abandon their few possessions, means of survival, loved ones and communities during each displacement. Living through such a prolonged conflict, with little to no prospect of a stable future, comes with profound mental health consequences.
10-5 | Since the declaration of the Ebola outbreak in Uganda on 20 September (and as of 2 October 2022), the Ugandan Ministry of Health has confirmed 43 cases of Ebola and reported 29 deaths (nine confirmed deaths from the disease and 20 probable). MSF is working with the Ministry of Health to set up an initial emergency response to help stop the disease from spreading further.
9-24 | Twenty-six survivors of a shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea have received psychological first aid from a team from Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) after arriving in the Sicilian port of Pozzallo on 12 September.
