9-25 | The COVID-19 pandemic has become very alarming in Iraq, with the country currently reporting close to 4,000 new cases every day and around 500 deaths a week. Just over the past month, more than 100,000 cases were identified in the country. And on September 23rd, 5,055 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, representing the highest daily rate in the country since the beginning of the pandemic. Iraq’s capital Baghdad, is the worst hit city, with almost 30% of the country’s reported cases.
9-24 | The temporary shelter and primary healthcare project for the homeless initiated by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) was handed over to the local non-governmental organisation “ImpactHK” on 15 September 2020. The project was collaborated with “ImpactHK” since June 2020 and was set up at a time when the tightened COVID-19 restrictions were in place, limiting the access of people experiencing homelessness to resources and support.
9-11 | In June, panic began to spread through Indonesian communities as COVID-19 cases started to be reported by health authorities. Rumours, myths and fake news proliferated. Community leaders and officials were bombarded by questions from community members pleading for clear facts about COVID-19.“We received a lot of information,” says Muchtar Lufti, head of the Rukun Warga 5 (RW5) community unit, a sub-division of Kalibata village in South Jakarta. “Some of it was accurate, some could be defined as fake news. It was very difficult to filter and people were so confused.”
9-10 | Nearly 12,000 men, women and children have been forced to evacuate Moria refugee camp, on the island of Lesbos, Greece, after a fire tore through the camp during the night of 8 September. The camp was almost completely burned down, and people are now on the streets, with nowhere to stay. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) urges Greek and EU authorities to immediately evacuate people off the island to safety. “Our teams saw the fire spread across Moria and rage all night long.
