9-25 | The COVID-19 pandemic has become very alarming in Iraq, with the country currently reporting close to 4,000 new cases every day and around 500 deaths a week. Just over the past month, more than 100,000 cases were identified in the country. And on September 23rd, 5,055 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, representing the highest daily rate in the country since the beginning of the pandemic. Iraq’s capital Baghdad, is the worst hit city, with almost 30% of the country’s reported cases.
9-24 | The temporary shelter and primary healthcare project for the homeless initiated by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) was handed over to the local non-governmental organisation “ImpactHK” on 15 September 2020. The project was collaborated with “ImpactHK” since June 2020 and was set up at a time when the tightened COVID-19 restrictions were in place, limiting the access of people experiencing homelessness to resources and support.
