12-1 | Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) calls on the Latvian authorities to immediately end the unlawful and arbitrary detention of migrants and asylum seekers in Latvia, which is having severe consequences on their mental and physical health. Currently, around 50 people are detained in two Latvian Immigration Detention Centers (IDCs), managed by the State Border Guard Service (SBGS); Mucenieki IDC, close to the Latvian capital Riga and Daugavpils IDC, located near the Belarussian border.
9-24 | Twenty-six survivors of a shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea have received psychological first aid from a team from Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) after arriving in the Sicilian port of Pozzallo on 12 September.
8-30 | Vulnerable migrants and people seeking asylum who are held in prolonged detention in Lithuania are consequently experiencing an alarming deterioration in their mental health. The Lithuanian authorities’ flawed migration practices and legal processes are further discriminating against certain nationalities, and contributing to the continued detention of these people, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said today.
8-8 | Since March 2022, an MSF – Hong Kong team with doctors, nurses, psychologists, and engineers, has conducted multi-disciplinary assessments in 16 elderly homes and residential care homes for persons with disabilities to cope with potential future outbreaks. The team has provided key recommendations on ventilation and air quality, infection and prevention control, as well as mental health and emotional well-being of the residents and staff.
